Let’s work together
I feel I must make a comment on the front page article (Bury Free Press Mildenhall edition, January 27) regarding Mildenhall town centre.
I have lived in Mildenhall all my life and am now a senior citizen. I worked in the town in the 60s and 70s when it was a thriving town with a good selection of shops meeting all the needs of customers who in those days came from villages around, buying all they needed from groceries to clothing both for adults and children alike.
As Ms Mulvanerty and Mr Thompson both state that something positive needs to be done with work on the High Street.
I have done a survey of Mildenhall and I find that we have 16 different eating establishments plus three hotels with eating facilities, six estate agents and eight empty retail premises of which I know four have been empty for many years and look an eyesore.
I am sorry to say that having a excellent Sainsbury’s and Wilkinson’s will not bring customers into our town centre as they shop at these and go else where for other requirements.
There are councillors on both Forest Heath and the parish council that are local as I am so they know what I am saying, so let’s all work to get the High Street successful and thriving again.
Arthur Carpenter,
Mildenhall.
