THIS year sees the Queen celebrate 60 years on the throne, the Olympics being held in London and Bury St Edmunds Hockey Club celebrating 100 years of existence.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, we are planning an in-house hockey tournament on Sunday, September 16, at Culford School’s astro and grass pitches, followed by an informal gathering and a ball at the end of the season.

We are also compiling a year book with photos and stories from the club’s humble beginnings through to the present time.

We still have the minute book from the very first meeting of the club in 1912, the minutes being taken by Tom Ashton, part of the Ashton family, who were solicitors in the town.

We have some early photos and stories to be included in the year book, but would like to hear from past players that have lost touch with the club and who may have old fixture cards, correspondence, old shirts, trophies and memories of their time playing or watching Bury Hockey Club.
