Flagging up equality

It should be a given that in the UK the police treat everyone equally, with no need to advertise the fact.

Suffolk Police recently flew the the Rainbow Flag over Martlesham Headquarters to mark gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender history month. Asssistant Chief Constable Paul Marshall is quoted as saying: “It demonstrates our commitment to equality – and our aim to provide an effective policing service to everyone in Suffolk, regardless of their age, disability, gender, religion and belief, race, sexual orientation or gender identity.”

The Rainbow Flag is the emblem of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender members of our society only. You can’t single out a particular group for special representation and then call it equality.

We have a flag that represents everyone in the United Kingdom, and I believe that includes Suffolk, regardless of their age, disability, gender, religion and belief, race, sexual orientation or gender identity. It’s red, white and blue and it’s called the Union Flag.
