A sensible proposal

I refer to Paul Derrick’s article (Bury Free Press, January 27) in which he mentions the merits of paying your parking fee upon exiting the arc car park in Bury St Edmunds.

It makes so much better sense than the present system, if only that there are so many occasions when you might be in the middle of deciding on a major purchase, or perhaps exploring all that Bury has to offer, or even thinking ‘let’s have a coffee or a bite to eat’, but all the time your mind is taken up wondering if you have enough time left on your prepaid ticket, before incurring an unwanted fine.

Also, the free first half hour would be very welcome to those just wishing to ‘pop in to the butchers, bakers, and

candlestick makers’ and drive off again. And not forgetting to sell the advertising space on the reverse side of the ticket.
