Strollers in Great Barton can sit and rest thanks to a wish to mark Jubilee Year reviving a plan for a bench on the green.

A committee formed by Brig John Maxwell, picture in a cap, raised twice the amount needed and on Sunday Scout patrol leader Rose King and the village’s oldest resident Frank Aldous, 98, cut the ribbon to ‘officially open’ the bench.

The village’s Scouts had dug the rectangle for a concrete base which was laid free by Mothersole Builders.
