Winter was third wettest in 10 years

February may have finished on a dry spell, but we have just had the third wettest winter in ten years.

Bury St Edmunds weather recorder Alan Messem logged 182mm of rain in the three winter months of December, January and February which was 38mm above the average.

Yet he says February’s 31.6mm was 15 per cent below the regional average, with only 2mm falling in the last two weeks.

Snow fell on 11 days of the month, beaten only by 2010 with 12 and 2009 with 14.
