West Suffolk Hospital is meeting all the standards of care its patients have the right to expect, according to the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Its report found, overall, that people’s privacy, dignity and independence were being respected at the Bury St Edmunds hospital.
And those who used the hospital could expect to receive care and support that was monitored and assessed.
It found people were protected from the risk of abuse, and that there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people’s needs.
Patients were also protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration.
It said: “We saw that in all wards people’s care needs were being met in a timely and respectful way.”
But it did note some areas which could be improved including drinks service and record security.
One comment said: “On a surgical ward beverages were served before supper instead of after.
“The provider may find it useful to note that six people told us they would prefer the hot drink to follow their food.”
Another said: “The provider may wish to note potential issues of record security.
“Wards stored daily use observation charts and care plans in open racks outside the bed bays.
“This was to enable frequent use by all staff in the multidisciplinary team.
“Not all wards labelled the racks as confidential.”
Nichole Day, executive chief nurse at the hospital, said: “We were really pleased with the overall results of the inspection.
“The feedback we received from the inspectors was very positive.
“They commended our professional, supportive and caring staff and highlighted some excellent practices taking place across the Trust.
“We were also delighted with the positive comments our patients made about their experiences of receiving care at West Suffolk Hospital.
“We will review all of the comments made during the inspection alongside all of our other internal surveys to see if there are any further improvements which can be made.”
