West Suffolk College principal to retire in 2013
West Suffolk College principal Dr Ann Williams
Dr Ann Williams, principal of West Suffolk College, has announced that she will be retiring in September 2013.
Dr Williams, 60, has worked at the Bury St Edmunds college for 32 years, the last 10 as principal.
In her time as Principal, Dr Williams has developed the College so that it is now the largest college in Suffolk delivering further and higher education. On Friday skills minister Matthew Hancock said the college was one of the best in the country for apprenticeships.
The College has been graded Good with several Outstanding features by Ofsted.
Richard Carter, the Chairman of Governors, said that the search to find Dr Williams’ successor will begin in the New Year.
“Ann is a remarkable Principal and all who have passed through the doors of the college, as students, members of staff or visitors, owe her a great debt of gratitude,“She will be a very hard act to follow and we will be looking for a further education professional of the very highest calibre to succeed her.”
In 2012 Ann’s contribution to further education was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours when she was awarded the OBE for Services to Further Education.
Ann said: “I have been very privileged to have been able to progress from a part-time lecturer through to leading a College that I am both passionate about and immensely proud of. The College has changed and grown so much over the last 32 years, and holds an excellent reputation. I am pleased to have been able to contribute to its success.”
