Weather warnings for rain across East Anglia until Friday night

The Met Office warns of the risk of localised flooding

WEATHER warnings for rain across an already soggy East Anglia have been issued by the Met Office to last until Friday night.

A yellow ‘be aware’ warning came into force at 3am today for the area north of a line between Cambridge and Norwich.

The Met Office said: “Heavy rain is expected to break out early on Tuesday and become more widespread through the morning before clearing away eastwards. However, some heavy showers or thunderstorms are expected to develop in places again during Tuesday afternoon.

“The public should be aware that large amounts of rainfall may bring a risk of surface water flooding, as well as general difficult driving conditions.”

But that will not be the end of it because a second yellow warning comes into force between 6am and 9pm tomorrow for everywhere east of a line between the Isle of Wight and Newcastle where heavy showers and thunderstorms are again likely to develop.

Then from 8am on Thursday to midnight on Friday a yellow warning will cover most of England and Wales.

The Met Office warns: “Outbreaks of heavy rainfall are expected to cross southern areas of England during Thursday. Renewed heavy rainfall and strong winds will spread north and east on Friday, affecting much of England and Wales.

“The public should be aware that given ongoing near-saturated conditions, some localised flooding may result.”

The only flood warning currently in force in the East is for the Fens around Spalding, but that may change.
