We’re bowled over by £900 donation

Barrow Bowls Club have donated 900 to the Beat It! appeal the paper is running.

One of our first major donations has come in, with a group of fund-raisers digging deep to hand over £900.

Barrow Bowls Club showed the Beat It! spirit by choosing our appeal as its charity of choice after a year of fund-raising in 2012.

Valerie Wyatt, treasurer, said it was ‘absolutely fantastic’ to be able to donate to a local cause.

“All the money was raised over the course of last year with a series of different events.

“Quite a few of our members have been affected by prostate cancer in some way and it’s a cause we feel very strongly about.

“One of our members saw the appeal and we saw how much it was going to help, and that made our minds up,” she said.

The club’s 28 members undertook fund-raising events such as raffles and quiz events to raise the money.

Everyone from the Barrow area was invited to get involved in the fund-raising and made a vital contribution, according to Mrs Wyatt.

“We really are grateful to be able to donate the money,” she said.

The club plays at Barrow Village Hall.

Its donation helped us to break the £1,000 barrier, with a target of £55,000
to raise by the end of the
year.
