VIDEO: Town packed for Armed Forces Day events

Bury St Edmunds town centre was packed today, as Armed Forces Day events took place.

The arc shopping centre is hosting an X Factor-style concert until 4pm, with young acts taking to the stage in front of the Apex, to shoppers' delight.

A display of military vehicles is drawing visitors to Angel Hill, where musical acts are also performing.

A full programme of events is taking place in the Abbey Gardens. Proceedings kicked off at 11.30am with The Rock 'a' Bellas, at noon The Edmund Octet took to the stage and Bury Concert Band performed at 1pm. Later this afternoon, 863 Squadron ATC Band and County Upper School bands are performing, while there will also be a drill display and field gun competition.

The Abbey Gardens is also hosting a vintage market, where bargain hunters can snap up clothing and trinkets.

At 4.30pm, the Armed Forces Day flag will be lowered at the Athenaeum and the Last Post will be played.

This evening, Cupid's Wish and The Fillers will be performing in the Abbey Gardens in a ticket-only Help for Heroes fund-raiser, while a charity auction and gala dinner will be held at the Corn Exchange.
