VIDEO: Audiences lap up street theatre

Audiences were going wild in the Abbey Gardens today as entertainers performed free shows.

Free street theatre as part of the Bury St Edmunds Festival kicked off at 11am today, with performances running into the afternoon.

Maynard Flip Flap launched proceedings with his brand of madcap physical comedy - with plenty of participation from younger members of the audience. Bruce Airhead then took up the reins with some balloon-based antics. The Abbey Gardens stage, which is normally used as the putting green, was then occupied by The Maniax, who promise more physical comedy.

This afternoon the programme repeated, with Maynard FlipFlap performing at 1pm, Bruce Airhead at 1.40pm and The Maniax at 2.10pm.

Festival manager Nick Wells, who was in the Abbey Gardens overseeing what he describes as one of his festival highlights every year, said he was pleased to see so many members of the public there.
