Tuneful pupils win Bury Free Press Song for Christmas competition

Christmas has come early for a group of primary school youngsters, who have been named winners of the first Bury Free Press Song For Christmas competition.

Twelve schools competed to win the 100 prize donated by Palmers, but Stanton Primary School was voted the winner.

Each of the schools was filmed singing a favourite Christmas song, which was then put on the Bury Free Press website.

The other primary schools competing for readers' votes were Rougham, Howard, in Bury St Edmunds, Tollgate, in Bury, Chilton, in Stowmarket, Sebert Wood, in Bury, St Mary's, in Mildenhall, Admirals Junior, in Thetford, Hardwick, in Bury, The Glade, in Brandon, Bardwell and Great Heath, in Mildenhall.

Suzanne Combes, music teacher at Stanton, said she hoped the money would be spent on a new CD player for assemblies.

"They actually sang really well and it was great to see so many boys who wanted to be involved.

"When we heard we had won, we had an assembly where the children sang their song to the school," said Mrs Combes.
