Tributes to woman killed in bike crash
THE FAMILY of a woman killed at Brighton Speed Trials have paid tribute to ‘a unique woman who lived a full, adventurous life’.
Charlotte Tagg, 38, of Beck Row, died after the motorcycle and sidecar she was a passenger in collided with safety fencing after crossing the finishing line at the annual event on Saturday.
In a tribute, Ms Tagg’s family said: “Charlotte was a unique woman who lived a full, adventurous life on her own terms. She touched the lives of many with her sunshine and smiles and will be missed by all.
“We appreciate all the condolences and heart-warming tributes paid to Charlotte online and wish a speedy recovery to the rider.
“Charlotte was tragically taken from us taking part in a sport she loved, living her life her way.
“She leaves three beautiful children and a grieving family who request privacy at this sad time.”
Ms Tagg had been riding in the sidecar of a black Honda Asco motorbike when it crashed at 6.15pm.
The bike was ridden by a 63-year-old man from London who was taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries.
Ms Tagg had been competing in the Brighton Speed Trials, the longest-running motor sport event in the world, during which vehicles are timed across a quarter of a mile course.
Len Wooller, vice-chairman at the Brighton and Hove Motor Club, who run the event, said: “We are shocked and saddened by this tragic accident.
“Our sincerest condolences go to the family and friends of all concerned.
“We and the Brighton and Hove City Council take every precaution possible when planning for and preparing the event to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators.”
Barbera Craig, organiser of Bikerfest and friend of Ms Tagg, said: “She will be missed, she was a great lady and I was glad to know her.”
