Traffic chaos as car overturns on Bury roundabout
POLICE and firecrews are blocking a town centre roundabout as they try to free the driver of an overturned car.
Fire crews used appliances to block access to the King’s Road - Parkway roundabout in Bury St Edmunds and removed the car’s roof to get the lone driver out of the vehicle. East of England Ambulance Service says his injuries are not life threatening.
Witnesses said the Volkswagen Polo approached the roundabout from the Waitrose end of King’s Road and went straight on, hitting a road sign and ending up on its side on the roundabout island. Police at the scene are seeking eye witnesses.
Drivers were allowed to drive the wrong way down the one-way section of King’s Road to clear the scene. Parkway was closed southbound for more than an hour after the accident.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance landed in the Cattle Market carpark but only stayed briefly before flying away.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Bury police on 101.
