Top chefs at food festival

TWO top chefs are being served up next month at Bury St Edmunds’ first Food and Drink Festival.

Cookery demonstrations at the festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend will star French TV chef Jean-Christophe Novelli and home grown Ollie Dabbous, plus chefs from Bury restaurants including The Angel, Banleuca, Benson Blakes and The One Bull.

Ollie, who appears on Sunday August 26, began his career at Raymond Blanc’s Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons and has his own restaurant, Dabbous, in West London.

Jean-Christophe will do his demonstration on the Monday. He appeared in Hell’s Kitchen and owns restaurants in London, France and South Africa.

The festival, organised by Bid4Bury, will also feature a farmers’ market, chilli festivals and stalls featuring the town’s wide range of food and drink. and businesses, from restaurants and bars to specialist traders.

For youngsters, there is a mini-farm and a medieval market.

Jackie Regan, Bid4Bury events manager, said: “This is a new venture for Bury St Edmunds, but an appropriate one given the town’s agricultural and brewing heritage.”

Mark Cordell, Bid4Bury’s chief executive, added: “I’m delighted that Jean-Christophe Novelli and Ollie Dabbous have found time in their busy schedules to come to Bury St Edmunds.

“Ollie Dabbous is one of the rising stars of the restaurant world and to have him at this event is a real coup for us.”
