TIC celebrates 25th birthday
THE Mid Suffolk Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in Stowmarket is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
The TIC opened its doors in 1987 when it was housed in a small building opposite the Gateway supermarket. That building has since been turned into public toilets.
The present TIC, at he entrance to the Museum of East Anglian Life has seen visitor numbers grow from around 20,000 when it first opened to more than 100,000 and growing today.
Manager Annette Ellis said: “It’s a year for celebrations with the Queen’s Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics and the torch coming to Suffolk.
“We are delighted to have our own event to celebrate as well.
“It’s good to look back at the last 25 years but we are also very excited about the future of the TIC as it continues to play a big part in the local economy bringing tourism to the area and contributing to the local community.”
The TIC celebrates its 25th on July 6.
Visitors are invited to pop along and join the celebrations from 10am to 3pm.
