Thieves raid hospice skip
Audacious thieves have smashed their way into a charity skip belonging to St Nicholas Hospice Care - less than a week before Christmas.
They used an angle grinder to cut their way into the skip on Boldero Road, in Bury St Edmunds, between 6pm on December 15 and 6am on December 17, stealing items within.
Ian Daniels, St Nicholas Hospice Care Head of Retail, said thieves had targeted the skip four times in the last six months.
He said: “The items that were stolen were going to be sent for recycling, which generates a valuable profit for the Hospice.
“We don’t know how these thieves are making money from selling these items, but they must be because they keep coming back time and again.
“The police have now offered to put a covert camera up, because the skip has been broken into four times in the last six months.
“We have put a big padlock on the skip and we’ve put metal round it in an attempt to deter them, but the thieves just use angle grinders to force their way in.
“It is disappointing the Hospice is being targeted in this way, particularly so close to Christmas.
“These thieves are stealing from people living with life-shortening illnesses, because all the profits we would have made recycling these items would have been spent on ensuring the Hospice can continue caring for those who need it.”
Anyone who has information in relation to this incident is asked to call PC Tim Walker at Suffolk Police on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
