Thetford organisations get funding boost
Community projects across Thetford are set to benefit from funding announced by the Moving Thetford Forward (MTF) board.
The Charles Burrell Museum will receive £19,250 towards the refurbishment of its exterior.
The museum, housed in Burrells original paint shop, displays engines, agricultural machinery and recreations of parts of the original works such as the foundry and the machine shop.
This year they will add to their collection with the Jones Butchers Van from the Dads army museum, after they received £10,000 from MTF towards buying the vehicle.
Over £20,000 has been awarded to Brettenham and Kilverstone Parish Council towards building a riverside path, suitable for pedestrians and wheelchair users, from Arlington Way to Nun’s Bridges.
It is hoped that work on the new pathway will start early next year.
The United Reformed Church which will receive £7,500 for much needed structural repairs.
Thetford Park Run which is part of the Healthy Town initiative and encourages people to run, jog or walk as part of a weekly 5k challenge will receive £2,000 to kick start the project.
A project run by the Keystone Development Trust that provides support and advice to communities when submitting grant applications will collect £4914.
And The Thetford Players will be given £3500 to purchase costumes for their project to provide historic walks in Thetford.
The group also plan to take their historical characters in to schools and provide museum re-enactments.
William Nunn, chairman of MTF said: “Moving Thetford Forward’s funding scheme is there to support worthwhile initiatives that will benefit communities.
“It’s great to see so many community projects being funded, big and small, this year and encourage people to think how the money could be spent on projects that will give a longer lasting legacy.
“There is a great deal of community work that goes on in local communities that often goes unnoticed.
“There are lots of small volunteer led projects that could do with support in providing the vital services they do in their area and MTF is happy to offer its support where it can.”
