Thetford death: Victim identified

Norfolk Police hope the local community will be able to help with their murder investigation after the body of a Polish woman was found in Thetford.

The body of Marzewa Karbowniak, 42, a Polish national, was found just before 7am yesterday near Norwich Road, just off a footpath near the Water Meadows, between the Abbey estate and the town centre.

A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday, where it was confirmed she had been severely beaten to death.

Det Con Steve Strong, who is leading the investigation into Marzewa's murder, said: "We have a lot of work to do and we have a number of lines or inquiry to follow but we really do need the help of the local community.

"She was last seen 5.20pm on Sunday in the Water Meadow area of Thetford with three males who are also believed to be Polish.

"We have made links with the Polish community in Thetford to move the investigation forward but we would really like to hear from anybody who saw her after 5.20pm on Sunday."

Marzewa had lived in the UK for the last two years and has family in Poland. Her next of kin have been informed.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen Marzewa alone or with someone else in the hours leading up to her death or from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Water Meadows area.

Anyone with information about this incident should call the major investigation team on 0845 4564567 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
