Chat show legend Sir Michael Parkinson, renowned foreign correspondent John Simpson and Thick of It lead Chris Addison are heading to Bury St Edmunds next year.

The star names are part of the Theatre Royal’s captivating and varied spring line-up of drama, music and comedy.

On January 25, theatre-goers can enjoy An Audience with BBC World Affairs editor, author and columnist John Simpson.

Actor, author, One Show reporter, former MP and government whip Gyles Brandreth will lift the lid on his unlikely life in showbusiness and politics on February 3.

He will be followed by Thick of It star Chris Addison on February 13 with his critically acclaimed tour The Time is Now, Again.

The Theatre Royal presents its interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragic tale of star crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet in a production featuring stirring live Italian folk music from February 21 to March 9.

The Trench, which runs from March 12 to 13, is a true story of a miner who becomes entombed in a tunnel during World War One and blends Les Enfants Terribles’ acclaimed brand of storytelling, verse and puppetry.

Theatre-goers will be transported from 17th century France to modern India in a witty new version of Molière’s classic farce, Kanjoos - The Miser, from March 20 to 23.

A gripping adaptation of Philip Pullman’s moving and darkly comic tale I Was a Rat! from April 16 to 20 promises to surprise and delight audiences.

On May 10, chat show host Sir Michael Parkinson will talk about his life and career.

An explosive musical adventure, based on another Pullman story, The Firework-Maker’s Daughter, is a new family opera brought to life by magical puppetry from May 21 to 22.
