The Soft bring electro to town
The Soft from Bury St Edmunds
BURY St Edmunds electro shoegaze trio The Soft are set for their first hometown headlining show at the Hunter Club in Bury St Edmunds in October.
The band - Henry Morris, 18, and William Glass, 18, both from Bury, and Zander Fletcher, 18, from Mildenhall, have had a very successful year - playing at Latitude and The Great Escape Festivals and featuring on BBC introducing.
Their ambient electro sound is created by a range of drum machines, organs, synthesisers and effects machines.
Henry said it can often be an expensive and time consuming way of making music.
He said: “I met Zander at school and started making music together when we about 14 and brought Will in a little later.
“We all got jobs and with any new money brought in new pieces of equipment.
“The music we listen to and are inspired by would be impossible to make with out the equipment we use.
“We are all into a lot of club music, 80s dance music and shoe gaze stuff.
“In the last month we have been working to finally set ourselves up properly. “We had been trying to get along with bits of kits that are broken .
“It takes a lot of equipment to make electronic music - if it doesn’t work out, it is a lot of money to spend on a whim.”
But it sounds like it is working out for he Soft having played the Lake Stage at Latitude this summer and Europe’s biggest festival for new music, The Great escape.
On October 5, The Soft return to Bury, headlining a night at the Hunter Club.
Henry said the band are also working on a new EP
He said: “Latitude was really good - a great weekend.
“We are planning for an EP release at some point but it is a slow process the way we work.
“We work on stuff on our own, then come together to sort out the missing parts. It is a collaborative way of making music, but it all starts with one person’s idea.”
