Waiting for Video...

THIS is the moments that firefighters arrived on the scene at the blaze that destroyed the historic Cupola House at the weekend.

Fire ripped through the Grade I listed building which was operating as Italian restaurant Strada on Saturday evening.

Some 120 guests including a Hen party, were in the restaurant at the time of the fire, which started in the kitchens, shortly before 9pm.

A large part of the building has collapsed, the observatory in the historic building, which dates back to 1693, has gone and with it a massive part of Bury St Edmunds rich heritage.

Bury Free Press reader Darren Donnelly, captured this footage on his phone as he came out of the Wetherspoon’s. A cordon was soon put up to prevent people getting anywhere near the building.

The building in still structually unsound. Part of the front wall of the building has moved forward by several inches. Firefighters and police will continue to remain at the site today ensure public safety, while some shops in the Traverse and Buttermarket will remain shut for now.
