Tapas restaurant closes as company cuts back

A TAPAS restaurant in Bury St Edmunds has closed following company cutbacks.

The branch of La Tasca, in Abbeygate Street, shut on Sunday, after the national chain decided to axe 16 of its restaurants across the country.

A spokesman for the company said it was ‘not economically viable’ to continue trading in the affected locations.

Mark Cordell, chief executive of town centre improvement organisation Bid4Bury, said the move was ‘a shame’ but he understood that other national restaurant chains were looking at the premises.

He added: “The majority of key staff have found jobs elsewhere.”
