Swimmer raises cash for hospices

SWIMMER John Wainwright raised £545.78 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (Each) after completing 38 lengths at Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre.

John undertakes the sponsored challenge twice a year and is thought to have raised about £2,000 for the charity.

He was cheered on by a crowd as he completed the 38 lengths in one hour and beat the £400 he raised last time.

Although not the fastest swimmer, Each says he is the most determined.

Nikki Brown, Suffolk fund-raiser for Each, said: “John is such an inspiration. I am always bowled over by his spirit and determination. He has inspired so many people that know him which was evident by all of us by the side of the pool cheering him on throughout his challenge.

“Each is very lucky to have such a wonderful fund-raiser.”
