Sustainable group clears litter

Sustainable Bury were out in force on Tuesday clearing litter from the Risbygate ward of Bury St Edmunds, in the dip area by West Suffolk College.

In just over an hour, its volunteer members had collected 12 bags of rubbish.

Member Katharine Moore said: “It is really good to get stuck into something like this. Our children play in this area and the rubbish is terrible. We want to be sure they have clean, safe spaces to play in. It is also a lot of fun.

“At the end of the litter pick we had a picnic of soup, cakes and biscuits. We plan to hold a litter pick every quarter so, if readers have a spot they think we should organise the next litter pick for, please let us know.”

Sustainable Bury’s next community event will be a swap shop at The Centre, in St John’s Street, Bury.

It will take place on April 6 from 10am-12pm, with items to be dropped-off from 9.30am.

Pippa Judd said: “Our last swap shop was really successful and we have had lots of interest. We thought we should hold one to coincide with spring cleaning. It’s lots of fun so please do come along.”
