Suffolk Savile sex abuse claims are passed on to Met Police

Suffolk and Norfolk Police have both received allegations of abuse concerning disgraced dead TV presenter Jimmy Savile.

The claims have been passed onto the Metropolitan Police which is carrying out a national inquiry called Operation Yewtree.

Suffolk Police received three allegations in October when the national investigation began.

The number of allegations was released in reponse to a Freedom of Information request and a Suffolk Police spokesman said a fresh FOI request would be required to release figures for November or December.

A Suffolk Police statement said the ‘three complaints/ allegations in relation to Jimmy Savile,’ were all forwarded to Operation Yewtree.

“We would encourage anyone who wishes to raise concerns – no matter how historic – to come foward and contact the police,” a Suffolk police spokesman said.

A Norfolk Police spokesman, said they had also received ‘three calls describing incidents involving Jimmy Saville,’ although one of these was alleged to have happened in another county.

“All information has been passed to the Metropolitan Police,” the spokesman said.

The Met Police said it had assessed in excess of 400 lines of inquiry and identified more than 200 potential victims.

Cmdr Peter Spindler, head of Operation Yewtree, said: “We are dealing with alleged abuse on an unprecedented scale.”
