Suffolk Police make arrests after operation to target burglars and people handling stolen goods

Police in Suffolk arrested a 20-year-old Bury St Edmunds man on suspicion of possessing a firearm without a licence, after executing 24 warrants across the county.

He has been bailed to return to Bury Police Investigation Centre (PIC) on March 6.

Officers targeted burglars and thoses suspected of handling stolen goods, during the operation on Tuesday.

The day was part of a police campaign called Operation Drawbridge.

In total 13 people were arrested and good suspected to have been stolen, drugs and weapons were seized.

A 26-year-old Thetford man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. He has been bailed to return to the Bury PIC on March 21.

A 31-year-old from Bury was arrested on suspicion of being involed in the supply of class A drugs. He was bailed to the Bury PIC on March 21.

And Michael Hart, 48, of Meadow Close, Lavenham, has been charged with the burglary of a house in Ipswich on January 17, from which electrical items and cash were stolen.

He is also charged with possession of a Class A drug and of a Class C drug. Hart was due before Ipswich magistrates today (24).

Det Supt Stuart Sedgwick said: “Tackling burglary is a key priority for the force. We have dedicated work going on across the county to ensure that we reduce this area of crime, by ensuring that communities know how to protect their homes and by taking action against those we know to be responsible.

“Whilst there has been a significant reduction in the number of house burglaries over the last 12 months, this operation was designed to target those individuals still commiting this type of crime.
“There was an additional focus on people prepared to buy stolen goods as this contributes to the problem.”
