Suffolk leisure centre wins national award

MID Suffolk Leisure Centre in Stowmarket has been crowned Leisure Centre of the Year at the recent Flame Awards – run by the Fitness Industry Association.

The centre, run by Everyone Active and Mid Suffolk District Council, was one of just six short-listed for the award.

Judges described the centre as ‘a really good, well managed facility’.

Anselm Gurney, leisure centre manager, said: “We are delighted to have been named Leisure Centre of the Year 2012.

“Our staff have shown a dedication to our customers that is second to none and this commitment has been recognised with this national award. It is testament to all the hard work that we have put in for many years and the fantastic team of colleagues working throughout the centre delivering the Everyone Active Experience.”

Mid Suffolk district councillor Diana Kearsley, portfolio holder for communities, said: “A big congratulations goes to the management and staff who work so hard at the leisure centre to ensure that it is a fantastic centre for everyone who uses it.

“The leisure centre offers excellent facilities for everyone who lives in and around Stowmarket.

“With the opening of the climbing wall and the new dance studio in the past year, this is the icing on the cake.”

Colin Plummer, fitness manager, said, “We worked really hard this year to win Leisure Centre of the Year as we have been shortlisted twice before – this year it was our turn to go home with the trophy.”
