Suffolk band’s big London gig

SUFFOLK three-piece Cathedrals and Cars are playing a gig in King’s Cross, London, to promote their new album.

The band, made up of singer and guitarist Jack Stevens, 18, from Diss, Jack Hubbard, 18, from Haverhill, on piano and glockenspiel and Will Prentice, 18, on guitar, released a full 11-track album, Control is not Perfection, in late July on CD and iTunes.

Since then, the band have been promoting the release and last month performed at the The Shoreditch in London. And on December 15, they return to Bury St Edmunds for a gig at the Hunter Club.

Jack Stevens said although the band were currently concentrating on playing live and promoting the album, they were writing new material all the time.

He said: “We had released an EP which had five tracks on it before, but that felt pretty easy compared to the album.

“With the album we spent a long time working on the structure so that the songs flowed properly. We probably spent half a year in and out of the studio working on it.

“We always work separately on our music because we always end up distracting each other if we try to write together.

“As we write separately, we always have things that each of us are working on.

“It is always nice to keep your creativity going even when you are concentrating on your live stuff.”

The band formed two years ago after meeting on a music technology course at West Suffolk College.

Jack said he was looking forward to playing in the capital again.

He said: “We are playing a gig at Water Rats in King’s Cross on October 20.

“London has so much history, art and culture it almost seems like another world but we tend to adapt to it pretty quickly. The city is great for music.

“We always enjoy getting there early and enjoying the scene and the culture it has to offer.”

The band are planning to hire a bus to transport their fans down to the gig with the band.

Jack said: “We will probably have ten seats available for people who want to go. It should be fun – it will mean I can have a drink that night, too, as I won’t have to drive.”
