Success in appeal for family
A Spanish woman has been successful in her appeal to find a family she stayed with in Bury St Edmunds more than 30 years ago.
Blanca Elizagarate came to the Bury Free Press while on holiday from her home in Vitoria, in the Spanish Basque country,to ask for help in tracking down the family.
An article prompted numerous calls from readers until Mike Holland got in touch.
Mr Holland, 69, of Home Farm Lane in Bury, will now contact Mrs Elizagarate for the first time since her visit in 1979.
Over several years his family looked after about 20 children from across Europe, who were learning English.
He said: "I'm thrilled that she should remember us so well.
"She was one of two who we very much remember.
"I don't quite know why, she just had a nice personality."
At the time, the family kept a guest book and they still have the message Mrs Elizagarate wrote.
It reads: "Thankyou very much for all the things. I would like to see you some day, somewhere."
