Students have suffered a setback in their A-level coursework after thieves stole computers containing specialist software from their school.
About 20 music pupils at King Edward VI School, in Bury St Edmunds, were using the eight Apple iMac desktop computers to create compositions.
The equipment, worth about £5,000, was stolen between 2pm on Sunday and 8am Monday, after thieves cropped a chain on a gate, in Beetons Way, and drove a car across the playing fields.
It is the ninth Suffolk school to be targeted by computer thieves in two months.
Headteacher Geoff Barton hit out at the ‘incredibly frustating’ incident which will have a knock on effect on students’ studies.
He said: “Their work will have been saved but the actual software they were using was all on the computers so it’s going to put them behind.
“Those computers had a particular version of the operating system. What’s slowing us down is getting the computers replaced but making sure they’ve got the operating system. We’re doing everything we can.
“It’s so infuriating when you’re trying to get young people working hard and someone comes in and does this.
“It made for a very sore start to the week.”
Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or have information relating to the incident, should contact PC Barry Simpson at Bury Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
