Students visit the world’s largest physics laboratory

A Level students from Stowmarket High School visited CERN in Geneva

Physics students from Stowmarket High School witnessed the hunt for the Higgs Boson up close when they visited CERN – the world’s largest particle physics laboratory - in Switzerland.

The 15 A-level students spent the day at the Europen Laboratory for Particle Physics, in Geneva, taking part in lectures given by top physicists, visiting the magnet testing facility and seeing the control room of the ATLAS experient – the search for the so- called ‘God particle’.

Students also had time to visit Geneva’s Natural History Museum and History of Science Museum. The research programme at CERN attracts thousands of top scientists from all over the world.

Head of physics Mark Wilson said: “There is nothing like seeing physics in action to stimulate and motivate students and this was a memorable and inspiring trip.”
