Students to meet inspirational Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi

STUDENTS from King Edward VI school will travel to Westminster on Monday to meet Aung San Suu Kyi.

Three students from the Bury St Edmunds school have been invited by the British Council to meet the Burmese opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Miss Sam Mortimer, Miss Grace O’Brien and Mr Sam Malcolm will travel to London to attend a reception in Whitehall, where they may be able to put questions to the pro-democracy campaigner.

Headteacher Geoff Barton said: “This is an extraordinary privilege for our school - the students can hardly believe the honour of meeting such an inspiring figure in person.

“Our school is committed to international work, to debate and helping students to understand a rapidly-changing world.

“We feel enormously flattered to have been given this invitation by the British Council.”
