Keri Bird has launched a baby shower business after her partner Jonathan Tebbit, 29, suffered a stroke and was left paralysed last year.

A woman has launched a unique baby shower business after being inspired by the courage of her 29-year-old partner who was left partially paralysed by a severe stroke.

Keri Bird, 25, set up the party planning business as she and partner Jonathan Tebbit gradually rebuild their lives following his debilatating stroke last July.

Mr Tebbit, who played football for Gym Utd in the Bury League, was left paralysed on one side and had to learn how to walk again.

The Great Barton couple’s ordeal inspired Miss Bird to start the business offering various party packages for mums-to-be to celebrate the pending birth of their child.

She said: “We had a terrible time last year. It was completely out of the blue.

“When you come up with something like this you’ve just got to run with it. Before I would have been too scared but life’s too short.”

The idea for the business developed ater she organised a baby shower for her friend.

Miss Bird remembers: “I couldn’t find anywhere in the area to get some advice or pay someone to do something. I had to do it all myself.

“There was a gap in the market so I thought I would give this a go.”

Party packages include gifts for mum-to be, a number of games, party favours, beauty treatment options and a gift shop selling homemade crafts and gifts.

Events will have a ‘shabby chic’ theme and every shower will be personalised to each individual.

Miss Bird hopes the business will grow so she can work on it with her partner, who is ‘doing amazingly well’.

She said: “He was in hospital for two months and when he was discharged he was referred to brain rehabilitation centre I canho, in Stowmarket.

“He couldn’t walk and now he’s walking at a pretty good speed.

“I’m hoping this business takes off, it grows and we can do it together.”
