Stagnight reveller headbutted Pc

A BODYBUILDER from Stowmarket has been given a one year conditional discharge for headbutting a police constable after officers tried to restrain a bridgegroom on his stag do.

Terrylee Felgate, 26, of Marriots Walk, pleaded guilty to assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty when he appeared at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Prosecuting, Andrew Bryant told the court that Felgate had been to Jokers nightclub in Stowmarket on July 8 for his friend’s stag do.

Members of the public had informed police that there was an incident occuring in Ipswich Street.

Mr Bryant said: “Mr Felgate was somewhat aggressive and vocal and was clearly intoxicated.

“He was shouting abuse and was told to leave the area.”

But after seeing his friend, the future bridegroom, being detained by another officer, Felgate became more aggressive and Pc Thompson moved in to assist.

Mr Bryant said: “Pc Thompson took hold of Mr Felgate from the back.

“Mr Felgate was lashing out and grappling and moved his head back and caught Pc Thompson on the head and gave him an injury.”

Mr Bryant said that when Felgate was later interviewed by police, he had said that he had reacted when he saw his friend being arrested and didn’t think it was fair because he was getting married.

The officer suffered reddening and swelling above his left eyebrow.

In mitigation, Claire Lockwood, said that Felgate did not deliberately headbutt the officer but accepted responsibilty for the incidnet.

Magistrates handed Felgate a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £100 in compensation to the injured officer.

He was also made to pay £85 towards the cost of the proscution.
