Specialist beer shop opens

BEER-lovers will be licking their lips at the news that a specialist beer shop has just opened in Bury St Edmunds.

Beer2go, which can be found in St Andrew's Street South, stocks more than 250 bottled beers from across the world.

So whether you fancy a Cuban lager or a Nigerian Guinness, Beer2go aims to cater for the most wide-ranging of tastes.

As the brainchild of Paul Garrard, who will run the off-licence with his partner Ginny Buchan, the shop is the only one of its kind in the town.

"It's a totally new venture for me and came out of a real eureka moment," explained Mr Garrard.

"I've been into real ale and beer in general for a long time and then one day it just came to me – I should set up my own shop.

"It's taken about a year to find the right premises, but we're confident that this shop is right – it's in an excellent location."

And running your own off-licence does have its benefits. "It means I get to taste a lot of the beers," said Mr Garrard, 49.

"We've got bottles ranging from one of the smallest brewers in this country to beers from as far away as Australia.

"I haven't got around to trying them all yet but I'm sure I will do – and we'll be trying to get new and more different beers in all the time."

Mr Garrard said he was confident

they had found an untapped niche

in the market.

"Bury is obviously a great place to be based because with Greene King and the beer festival, it has a real tradition in real ales," he said.

"But it's also about educating people because there are a number of beers now that go really well with food and that's what we'll be trying to do."

Beer2go officially opened its doors last Thursday. For more information, contact Paul or Jinny on 01284 768534.
