Singers hit the high notes for elderly

Horringer Good Neighbour Group have been invited to Ickworth Park Primary School for afternoon tea. They have been entertained by their choir "Just Sing", with a medley of songs.

YOUNG singers hit the high notes when they serenaded a group of elderly residents at their school.

Ickworth Park Primary’s choir, Just Sing, performed a medley of six songs for the Horringer Good Neigbour Group.

The group of residents were then served cakes and drinks prepared by the school’s Let’s Get Cooking club.

The 19-strong choir features children aged seven to nine, who have also showcased their vocal abilities at a number of residential homes.

Jayne Cook, key stage one co-ordinator, said: “The visitors were quite overwhelmeed by it all. I think they were very appreciative of the childrens’ hard work. We had so many compliments.

“It was so successful that we plan to do another one in June.

n CHILDREN from the 17 primary schools in the Thurston Partnership and Priory School are training hard for an event to celebrate the Olympics.

They will compete in versions of up to eight Olympic and Paralympic disciplines and enjoy taster sessions in a range of new sports activities including fencing, martial arts and rowing.

The event, on July 5, will close with a medal ceremony.

The partnership was formed to lead the reorganisation of schools in the Thurston area.

n A ROYAL rota of guests have descended on Lavenham Primary in the run up to their Jubilee celebrations.

The school has welcomed 16 visitors including members of the Household Cavalry, Frederick Fox, who makes the Queen’s hats, and Angus Cundey, of Saville Row tailor Henry Poole.

After each visit, pupils produced a page detailing what they learnt to form a Jubilee book.

n BARNHAM Primary has donated water bottles, socks and school resources to St Monicahs school, in Kenya.

Children have also recorded an African Song to send to the children.

They received the water bottles and socks from Sainsbury’s.

n FOUR students from Culford School made it into fourth place in the final of the East of England Year 10 team maths challenge at Cambridge University Mathematics Department. 

The team, consisting of Kristin Chirica, Toby Reed, Alan Yang and Yi Zhang, were among 29 teams taking part in the final from across the East of England.
