Since when was there a coastline in Mid Suffolk?
A police authority has been accused of scoring an own goal after sending out a booklet on Mid Suffolk's policing with a picture of the coast on its cover.
Andrew Stringer, county councillor for Upper Gipping, pointed out the blunder this week after the Mid Suffolk Local Policing Sumary 2009 landed on his doorstep.
Among the pictures on the front cover is a photograph showing a beach and pier in the background – despite the fact that Mid Suffolk has no coastline.
Cllr Stringer said: "Perhaps the police are giving a dire warning about climate change, but I suspect it's a slight error.
"There is a serious side to it, as really this is a bit of an own goal in terms of people criticising the police for being out of touch.
"We regularly see our local PCSOs on the beat and I would love to have seen one of them on the cover. I'm pretty certain they have at least one picture of Mid Suffolk somewhere."
But Suffolk Police Authority, which printed the booklet, insisted there was no error and said it had used the same photos for each district.
A spokesman added: "They were taken throughout Suffolk and aim to illustrate the diverse landscape."
Meanwhile, the district has been labelled one of the best places to live in Suffolk, with high scores from residents over policing and antisocial behaviour, according to a survey published this week.
The Government's 2008 Place Survey showed 90.8 per cent of people were 'very' or 'fairly satisfied' with Mid Suffolk as a place to live, compared to 87.5 per cent in St Edmundsbury, 76.5 in Forest Heath, 89 per cent in Babergh and 86 per cent across all of Suffolk.
Cllr Derrick Haley, portfolio holder for resources and finance, said: "We are proud that we are able to serve an area that has rated so highly in the residents' survey."
