THE threat of redundancy has provided a new beginning for one Bury St Edmunds woman.

Jane Cappleman had worked as an interior designer for Clement Joscelyne in Bury for nearly 14 years.

She left the company just two weeks before it went into administration and has now started her own interior design business.

“It is exciting. I have taken some custom on to fulfill orders that Clement Joscelyne couldn’t fulfill.

“I’m hoping that all my loyal customers from the last 14 years will continue to come to me,” said Jane.

She said staff at Clement Joscelyn were aware that the company ‘was in trouble’.

“I decided to hand my notice in because I was worried that customers wouldn’t have their orders fulfilled,” said Jane.

“I’ve been known as an interior designer in the town for so many years and so I thought it was better to walk away with my reputation intact.”

Just two weeks later the company called in the administrators and the store in Bury, was closed.

Jane will run her business – Jane Cappleman Interior Designer Ltd – from her home in Bury.

She has also told of her frustration with the adminstrators for Clement Joscelyn.

She said she been trying to retrieve some of the fabric books – which show the range of fabrics on offer from an individual supplier.

But she said the administrators had cleared out the Bury store the day after it closed and have refused to sell the books to her.

She estimates that the Bury shop had about 1,000 of these books which cost £80 each.

“Whilst it is sad that Clement Joseclyne went into administration I am trying to set up my business.

“These books would have been invaluable to me – they cost so much to produce and they don’t really make them any more, and they will presumably end up in landfill,” she said.

Meanwhile, Jane is preparing to launch her website – www.janecappleman.co.uk – on Friday ( June 1).
