Sergio has the eggs factor . . .
A Freckenham chef has landed a place in the final of a national cooking competition thanks to his egg-cellent cooking skills.
On Monday, Sergio Neale, 28, head chef and co-owner of The Golden Boar, in Freckenham, beat 11 other chefs to be crowned south-east winner of the Eggs Factor competition.
He will now go on to take part in the October 6 final of the competition, which is being run by the British Egg Information Service.
The regional heat, held at Southgate College, in London, saw Mr Neale wow judge Martyn Nail, executive chef of Claridge's Hotel, with his signature dish of a deep-fried egg served with pea, bacon and chicory salad with a yolk and thyme dressing.
As well as creating a signature dish, Mr Neale also had to prove he could poach the perfect egg.
Speaking after the event, Mr Neale said: "I'm really pleased to have been crowned the South East winner and I can't wait for the final in October.
"I didn't find the heat stressful, even when in front of the judge, as I really love cooking.
"I had a great day and was presented with a cup which now takes pride of place behind the bar."
Mr Neale has been at The Golden Boar for nine months, having previously worked as a sous chef at Axis restaurant, at One Aldwych Hotel, in the West End of London.
