September made up for wet summer

A SOGGY summer was saved by below average rainfall in August and September.

Bury St Edmunds weather recorder Alan Messem says the 31.8mm that fell in September was only 57 per cent of the regional
average.

No significant rain was recorded until the 12th and by the 20th there had been only 25mm in 45 days.

That was after the first eight months of the year had seen 496mm of rain, which was 120mm above average.

On the 23rd 13.1mm fell, making it the wettest September day since 2008. Yet we still had the fourth driest August and September in 20 years at only 70mm.
