Second warning over school leaflet

A charity behind a bid to set up a village Free School has been rapped for a second time by watchdogs for ‘misleading’ advertising.

The Seckford Foundation Free Schools Trust has been told to change a leaflet promoting the development of a Free School in Ixworth by the Advertising Standards Authority.

It claimed: “The imminent restructure to a two tier system of education in this area will leave our children, for the first time in living memory, with no choice upon leaving primary school.”

In its report, the watchdog noted that there are ‘three preferences of secondary schools across the area’ and the claim ‘oversimplified the actual situation with regard to the allocation of secondary school places’.

The authority acted after receiving a complaint by the Suffolk Coalition Opposing Free Schools. The Seckford Foundation was previously told by the authority to change a leaflet promoting Beccles Free School.

A spokesman for Seckford Foundation Free Schools Trust said: “We’ve received the response from the ASA and will make the necessary changes to our literature. We remain committed to our bid for a Free School in Ixworth.”
