Second teenager named following fatal crash on A14 at Bury St Edmunds

A sixteen-year-old boy who died following a car smash on the A14 at Bury St Edmunds has been named as Macauley Clements from Ixworth.

He was a passenger in a silver BMW being driven by 19-year-old Adam Weller which crashed into tree on Thursday night.

Mr Weller, from Hereward Avenue, Weeting, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Macauley was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where he died on Friday morning.

Friends of the two teenagers gathered in the street outside Poundland in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, placing flowers around a tree and singing songs.

Both were former pupils of Thurston Community College.

Prinipal Helen Wilson said: “The news has devastated our College community and on behalf of all students and staff I would like to offer our sincere condolences to their families and friends.

“At times like this, our minds are focussed on the most important things in life and we reflect on what binds us as a community.”

The driver of a red Ford Fiesta,a 20-year-old man from Bury St Edmunds has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

The crash happened shortly before 9pm on the East bound carriageway. Witnesses to this collision are asked to call PC Danny Ormes at the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
