Pupils from St Louis Middle School met the Mayor of St Edmundsbury, Tim Marks, to see the civic regalia and have a debate on homework
Having chaired his fair share of council meetings, the Mayor of St Edmundsbury put his skills to the test when he oversaw a school debate about the merits of homework.
Cllr Tim Marks presided over the discussion by St Louis Middle pupils during an action packed visit to St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s headquarters at West Suffolk House, in Bury, this week.
They learnt about the history of mayoralty and civic duties and viewed the regalia in the Mayor’s Parlour including a sword, maces and a selection of silver given to the borough.
Pupils were also told about the council’s emergency plans in the event of a flood or gas leak in the town.
n Young dance enthusiasts at Horringer Court Middle are to take to the stage at the Move It festival in London next week.
It follows a repeat performance of the school’s dance production A Night at the Movies on Wednesday February 27, which featured 100 pupils.
n Students from Stowmarket High School were given an insight into potential careers at BT’s Work Inspiration event.
The activity at Adastral Park, in Ipswich, was split into short workshops which covered skills such as team building, communication, co-operation, presenting and preparing bids.
The 50 students also gained a practical insight into CV writing.
n Art works by West Suffolk College students focusing on the Hindu God Shiva have been praised by Nevada-based Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism. He issued a press release applauding the portraits, animation and sculptures explaining that visual arts have a long tradition in Hinduism.
