Grace Kirby reads a book by torchlight after St Edmundsbury Primary School in Bury St Edmunds switched off its electricity on Monday as part of its eco week.
“It was a way of teaching them about how much energy we use and the fact that heating uses more power than other things like lightbulbs and phones charges, so we should wear more layers in Winter and try not to have the heating up so high,” said teacher and eco schools coordinator Jenny Rutter.
“It was about helping them learn about their carbon footprint and ways of conserving energy.
The week of activities has included making artwork from natural resources, looking at sustainable energy like solar panels, rubbish recycling, and planting.
The children will also be making a greenhouse out of two litre plastic bottles.
“They have really enjoyed themselves,” said Jenny.
