Businesses leaders gathered at The West Wing at Ickworth on Thursday to wish a happy retirement to sales manager Mary Myers.
She has worked for Sodexo for 22 years, the last eight at the West Wing while previously she was at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.
She built up its conferences and weddings business from scratch and during her time won the sales manager of the year award, while last year she was presented with an outstanding achievement award.
“I’ve been responsible for thousands of events and looked after hundreds of brides over the years.
“I’ve loved it,” Mary said.

One of the events that stuck most in her mind was of an Indian wedding at the West Wing.
“The groom rode in on a horse. It was absolutely amazing,” she said.
She also told how during her time at Duxford she had one bride featured on a brochure who came back two years later asking for it to be removed as she had since divorced.
“I am going to miss the poeple the most. I have made some lovely friends,” said Mary.
She plans to spend more time with family and travelling with husband Anthony.
Richard Wheeler, her boss and account director for Sodexo said: “Mary has worked for Sodexo for 22 years, most recently as Sales Manager at The West Wing at Ickworth House and our collection of recently awarded venues in Bury town centre, the apex and the Athenaeum.
“Mary has been awarded numerous awards in her time with Sodexo including Sales Manager of the Year and in 2012 the Outstanding Achievement Award. “Mary was part of the bid team for these venues and worked prior to the opening of The West Wing which now hosts in excess of 240 events a year.
“I’ve worked closely with Mary since 2005 and she has shown great commitment, hard work and dedication to her work with unwavering professionalism. “It was still a surprise when Mary announced that she was retiring and will be genuinely missed by Sodexo and I wish her the very best.”
