Sainsbury’s gets in the spirit of Comic Relief
Sainsbury’s in Bury St Edmunds has been getting in the spirit of Red Nose Day.
Many of the staff have dressed in red T-shirts and red noses, while some have gone all out with a variety of outrageous costumes, from human horses to Sumo suits.
Produce manager Steven Rayment, general merchandise and clothing manager Hannah Wright and deputy store manager Tim Booth are among those who have dressed-up to greet customers.
In the supermarket foyer, customers have been taking part in a chopstick challenge where, for £1, they have competed for the fastest time in transferring 68 Maltesers from one bowl to another - using nothing but chopsticks.
Anyone wanting to pay to throw a wet sponge will see Mr Rayment put in the stocks, while inside the store is a tombola offering lots of goodies and outside a Mini full of how many balloons?
Store manager Linda Alexander said: “This year, Red Nose Day is celebrating 25 years and Sainsbury’s is one of its main sponsors. Everybody really looks forward to it and they’re really up for having fun and raising money.”
She said the Moreton Hall store was leading the way with Comic Relief fund-raising, as no other Sainsbury’s store in West Suffolk or Norfolk had raised more funds.
Before today got under way, the store in Bedingfeld Way had already raised around 75 per cent of the £6,500 target it set itself.
And, for today only, anyone buying their copy of the Bury Free Press from the supermarket will receive a free packet of Velvet soft tissues.
