A COMPANY which makes robotic instruments for labatories has appointed a new director to steer growth in Europe and North America.

Bury St Edmunds-based Redd&Whyte is a specialist developer of liquid handling technology.

The business, in Hollow Road, has appointed Rob Harkness PhD as director of business development as part of its strategic restructure.

“This is a crucial time for our company,” said managing director Roger Poole.

“We have been making significant changes on a number of levels over the past few months and Rob’s appointment forms an important part of our new business strategy.”

Dr Harkness brings specialist understanding in software and robotics.

He previously worked as a software programmer and project manager at Process Analysis & Automation before leading its business development in 2010.

His PhD was on new software for biochemical labatory medicine.

Dr Harkness will now lead Red&Whyte’s global business development team.

Mr Poole said the move was a sign of its open innovative approach to technology.

“Our products, including the award-winning Preddator microplate dispenser, are all developed through close collaboration with our customers, to help solve their liquid handling challenges and overcome perceived barriers to research,” he said.

The company is currently developing a range of robotic instruments for labatory scientists.

It will be used by scientists in life science research, including drug development, human diseases and clinical research.

The instruments are designed to over come problems and provide safe handling of fluids so that the laboratory scientists can carry out their research.
