Retailers put faith in Bury St Edmunds as TK Maxx announces opening date

TK Maxx is to open its doors in Bury St Edmunds next month with the creation of 45 new jobs.

It is the latest retailer to put its faith in the town.

Bookshop The Works expanded from Rougham Road to the formerDorothy Perkins store in the Cornhill.

The store opened last Thursday with the creation of a number of new jobs.

And Fashion and homeware store TK Maxx is to open on November 1 at 9am.

Its is opening next to PC World on the Robert Boby Way Retail Park.

Signs that the store is preparing to open were obvious on Monday when a delivery lorry blocked part of Kings Road.

Helen Gunter, spokeswoman for TK Maxx said: “We are very excited to beopening up a new store and bringing Bury shoppers saving of up to 60 per cent off the recommend retail price on great brands and labels, for all the family, under one roof.”

The first 500 shoppers through the door will get a £10 gift card to spend in store.

Although all the jobs are filled, it will be recruiting temporary staff over the Christmas period. People can pop their CV in once the store is open.

The news of The Works and TK Maxx has been welcomed by the town’s Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber manager Ruth Brady said: “Bury is fighting the forces of the downturn.

“This shows that businesses not only see the town as attractive, but commercially viable as well.

“So it is a good show of confidence in Bury as a retail destination.”
